The Dominican Republic is best known for its stunning beaches. What is less known, is the mountainous region of the Cordillera Central, the highest mountain range, not only of the Dominican Republic, but of all the Caribbean. The high altitude offers a unique micro-climate on the Island, making it the ideal place to escape the heat of the tropics and experience the cool mountain air. Jarabacoa is a town perched up on the scenic mountains. The whole area is cut by curving rivers and covered in a thick forest hiding coffee plantations, waterfalls, and hiking trails. Jarabacoa offers several mountain adventures like river rafting, paragliding, horse back ridding, tubing, canyoneering, and rappelling, along with several hikes to waterfalls like Salto De Jimenoa.
